    As the concerned one said: those are instructions to deactivate and my suspicion is that
    (as with most portals these days)
    all data stays with Duolingo and there is no way to really ever remove ones account anymore.

    Duolingo is fixated on squeezing their members out for free translation work, and instead of paying for a proper staff rather recruiting voluntary moderators who even create their courses for free for them, so I don’t trust them an inch in dealing with user-data in an ethical way.

    Remember – Luis is the guy who developed the captchas which make people read unscannable data for free – and then he sold it to Google for 28 million.
